If you own a 1.8T you need to give Forge and Milltek a call now. If you’d read my report last month you’d know I just had a Forge TIP (turbo intake pipe) and a full Milltek exhaust fitted by AmD in Essex; you’ll also know I was extremely happy with the products, and the service provided by the boys at AmD. Well, a month on and the car is still keeping me happy, the car has now been nicknamed the ‘Angry Car’ as it just seems to want to go mad everytime you open the throttle and force the air into that turbo. The TIP is incredible. It replaces the factory metal and plastic pipe (below right). The idea of the pipe is to get more air circulating, thus more power. It’s not as smooth as the standard pipe but the response is so different, it really wants to go. Partnered with the Milltek, the system works beautifully. Unfortunately I haven’t had the car rolling roaded yet so no bhp figues to report, hopefully next month... but after being told I needed to use ‘proper’ unleaded I now use the Tesco 99 brand and also got in touch with Millers Oils, to get hold of some CVL Octane booster specially made for turbo engines. It’s hard to feel the difference but I’m informed this (with the petrol) will not only add power but also, fingers crossed, get more mpg. Also this month, we went off to the Edition 38 show in Northampton and although I’ve not done much to the ‘looks’ of the car I needed to tidy the Leon up inside. After a quick search on the ‘net I found a company, Autostyle, which specialises in custom car mats, made specifically for each vehicle – making the fit spot on. Also, they can add logos; your own or a choice from its library. The company also has a large choice of colours for the mat itself and the binding. Check out all the options on the website: www.autostyle.co.uk. After visting the show I was even more enthusiastic about modding the Cupra. After being so impressed with my Forge parts, I searched the site for some more goodies... and I got a little carried away with the order and ended up with a whole load of beautifully made pieces of equipment, including a front mounted intercooler, carbon fibre cold air induction kit, a quick shift kit, a full set of water hoses and some bits of bling to tidy the engine bay, including oil filler cap and strut covers. I haven’t yet got these on the car but I can’t wait, I’ll hopefully get the car booked into AmD in the next few weeks and get the new bits on. So for now I'm still well chuffed with the new ‘family’ ride. Future plans include getting the ride height right, probably with some 40mm lowering springs from Eibach, also hopefully stiffening up the ride with some strut braces and getting some bigger tyres, something like 225/45R17s partnered with some of Momo’s new S-Five 17in alloys... Body wise, I’m going to speak to the guys at Autoshine (www.autoshine-repairs.co.uk) to get some of the trim body coloured; I’m not going too wild (yet) with this project... watch this space! |
