A load of goodies just waiting to be fitted
Right, after getting our new toy home we realised that the head gasket was on its way out, so we decided that while it was off it could be treated to a bit of special attention. After a bit of investigation the name QEP (PT11) kept popping up as the guys in the know for machine work and tweaking up engine parts, especially Peugeots. After a quick call to Matthew the head was packaged up and sent to QEP’s HQ in West Sussex for a port and polish and also the fitment of a mild Cat camshaft.

Engine sans head. Should be as good as new when it's back on, though
While the head was away and the engine bay was looking rather sparse, we thought that we may as well undertake a few more tweaks. Firstly a call to Duncan Rainbird at Nissens UK took place, enquiring about their all-aluminium radiators; these are meant to improve cooling by up to 20 per cent, a well worthwhile upgrade. And on its arrival we were very pleased to see an extremely well made OEM fitment replacement part.

Also while the head was off we thought we should replace the cambelt, tensioner, water pump and alternator belt. After a call to Gerald at Elring a new set of head bolts, a new head gasket and head gasket kit was ordered and received straight away, ready for the fitting of the newly refurbed cylinder head.

Kevin at Kam Racing sent us a Raceland 4-branch stainless manifold and K&N supplied a performance panel air filter, which is to be slotted into our drilled standard airbox.

We’ve also acquired other parts including Bilstein dampers, Eibach lowering springs, Powerflex bushes and a Compbrake short shift kit – more on these in forthcoming issues of PT.

The head should be back any day now, so we’ll cover the re-fit of this and all our other goodies next month. SM
