WE SPECIALISE IN: We tune all marques of cars but are especially well known for our Ford RS tuning.
PROJECT PRICE RANGE: All budgets are catered for but vehicle remapping is available for 95 per cent of cars for under £430.
COMPANY HISTORY: Stewart Sanderson and Kenny Walker became business partners after leaving another tuning company together, both feeling somewhat disillusioned with the industry in general and disappointed with the poor quality of workmanship and products that the tuning industry as a whole seemed to be happy to put up with. They both felt sure they could improve upon it greatly and those thoughts ultimately led to the creation of Motorsport Developments back in April 2000.
From day one the company was well known for its ability to actually map original equipment (OE) ECUs live with an emulator and they were both regularly seen at places such as Bruntingthorpe and Elvington’s runways tuning very high powered vehicles for their owners and creators. For a few years a large proportion of profit was constantly reinvested into the company to further develop the skills and equipment needed to cater for more and more OE ECUs and they now have one of the widest and most comprehensive collections of remapping tools and software systems in the industry today, allowing them to remap pretty much any ECU that is remappable. If it can be done, they can do it. The ECU remapping side of the company eventually grew to the point a new brand name arose and that side of things began to take precedence due to more trade customers around the UK and Europe wanting them to remap their customers’ ECUs for them.
Evolution Chips as a brand name was born in 2001 and has grown from strength to strength as time has gone by. Having been remapping OE ECUs day in and day out for some seven years now we have developed a strong dealer network of 70+ capable qualified establishments and operate a customer referral system, not only on our internet site but also on all telephone calls we receive to ensure that our dealers are given any customers in their area. It’s worth noting that the vast majority of our dealers are not just your average vehicle technicians, they are well respected UK and European tuners. Hopefully that gives you some idea of our expertise in this field when you look at the kind of businesses who want us to personally do this remapping work for them. We even have official approval from a leading UK insurer whom is happy to quote most of our tunes (up to +40bhp if fitted by ourselves or an authorised dealer) as standard cars because they fully understand the benefits of professional remapping.
CURRENT PROJECTS: The most interesting project we have nearing completion is a 400+bhp 2-litre Zetec Turbo running AEM management that will ultimately run with a lot of nitrous on top too. We are expecting completion to be sometime around May 2008.
MAGIC MOMENT: I can’t think of anything to state as a specific magic moment but we do enjoy seeing cars we have mapped doing well in competitions around the country and seeing our company being named as a key element in a car’s success in the magazines every month. Every time we sign up a new Evolution Chips dealer is a magic moment for me, too.
DREAM CAR, TUNED/STANDARD: It has to be the Bugatti Veyron for obvious reasons. It is an engineering masterpiece and I would love to see how much further we could push one.
BEST CUSTOMER QUOTE: Not the most positive, but undoubtedly the most memorable one by far was when a chap came in for a power hike of over 150bhp yet his car had no brake fluid due to a leaking wheel cylinder. When I mentioned this he told me: “The handbrake works fine, I am going to sort the brakes when I get paid next month.”
BEST CAR WE TUNED: We have tuned so many over the years it’s hard to pick a favourite but the tuned Mitsubishi Lancer VI Tommi Mäkinen edition was by far the most enjoyable to drive modified road car that I have owned.

COMPANY HISTORY: Prima Racing was founded back in 1988. The founder, Tony Hart, was originally a supplier of Ford Motorsport parts. He noticed a gap in the market for the new Renault models, such as the 5 GT Turbo, so a range of tuning and styling products was developed. Back in the 1990s, Tony competed in the 5 GT Turbo Super Coupe Cup Race Series with great success and Prima Racing ran a team of up to three cars for five seasons, later progressing to the Clio Racing Series.
In 1996, Cituning, originally a company from Belgium, approached Prima Racing for a collaboration with their Citroën and Peugeot range. We then started developing our own large range of products for Citroën models, including our Saxo Turbo Kits. Cituning is commissioned by Citroën UK to modify several press cars, to include Xsara WRC, C2 JWRC and C4 WRC replicas. We are still involved in racing, sprints and hillclimbs, preparing our own and customers’ cars for competition with specialised performance upgrades, plus brakes and suspension set-ups. We are agents for brands such as Tarox, Milltek Sport, Turbo Dynamics, Superchips, Koni, Green, BMC, Supersprint and OMP.
